Camborne RFC are thrilled to announce the signing of Joel Matavesi for the 26/27 National League 1 season.
This landmark signing completes the Matavesi collection and will give the brothers the first chance to play competitive rugby together.
Joel joins from France, where he has been playing for Bourg-en-Bresse in Nationale 1. Prior to this Joel has spent time with Championship side Bedford Blues, Premiership sides Northampton Saints and Newcastle Falcons.
Of the move, Joel has said “After 10 years away, I’m coming back to play for Camborne Rugby Club this year, and I cannot wait….I believe that, at this moment in time, it is the most exciting time I can think of in this club’s history. I just really want to come back and be part of this. Where the club is heading as a whole is really exciting for the club and for the whole town, really”.
Camborne’s Director of Sport, Ricky Pellow added, “We’re delighted to welcome Joel to the club. To be able to sign a player of Joel’s calibre, both on the field and off the field, and the experience he brings, is a testament to him as a player, but also where we are as a club moving forward.”
Echoing the importance of this homecoming, Club Chairman Martin Symons concluded “We are delighted to have Joel back home joining Josh and Sam in the Cherry & White jersey. The family are such an important part of our club’s rich history and I am grateful to Tony Chapman and CLX Professionals whose continued support has been instrumental in making this exciting vision a reality.’’
There is already a sense of excitement building around The Rec. For the supporters who have followed the club through the years, seeing the three brothers together in the Cherry & White isn’t just about the rugby, but a moment for the whole town. As the countdown to the new season begins, the stage is set for a unique year in Camborne’s history.
