Camborne 41 – 12 Old Redcliffians

Camborne increased their lead to five points at the top of the National Two West table with a seven try win over a determined Old Redcliffians at the Recreation Ground.

In tricky wet conditions the Cherry & Whites faced wind and slope in the opening half but soon went in front when Kyle Moyle’s run took play deep into visiting territory from where Ben Priddey dotted down from a catch and drive.

On 23 minutes hooker Priddey repeated the dose again steering over the maul for his 2nd try which went unconverted.

Down 10-0 the visitors continued to enjoy a good share of possession and prove a resilient force in defence thwarting the Cherry & Whites for long periods.

As the interval neared Camborne lost the ball at a close range scrum to concede a soft converted try and take only a slender 3 point lead into the break.

Coming out for the 2nd period with the advantage of the slope ‘Town’ briefly went behind to a well taken score but thereafter played the game in the right areas to take total charge.

They responded almost immediately as a penalty was punted to the scoreboard corner and the forwards drove from the resulting lineout for the prolific Priddey’s hat trick to go 15-12 up.

Soon after the hooker took his tally to four with a carbon copy touchdown which also brought the home bonus point. Full back Moyle added the extras with a well judged kick.

On the hour Camborne pounded the visitors goal line with relentless one up attacks until the ball was eventually worked left for fly half Sam Walker to breach the cover and squeeze over. Again Moyle slotted the conversion.

Going into the closing stages ‘Town’ went out of sight with their sixth try when an Old Reds mistake gave centre Connor Gilbert the opportunity to touchdown near the posts. Centre Josh Matavesi’s conversion made the score 36-12.

Late on man of the match Jack Andrew had the grandstand crowd on their feet as he set off an unstoppable 40 metres charge to the line to complete the scoring.
