Camborne 29 – 15 Luctonians

Camborne triumphed in the top of the table clash securing a bonus point win over nearest challengers Luctonians in the winter sunshine at the Recreation Ground.

Playing down the slope the Cherry & Whites shrugged off an early Josh Matavesi red card to dominate the opening half and turn around 19-5 up.

Inside the first ten minutes a deft Robin Wedlake pass created the opportunity for Kyle Moyle to send Alex Ducker in at the West Bank corner flag. Full back Moyle added the extras with a majestic kick.

Midway through the half ‘Town’ doubled the lead when flanker Jordan Nicholls received the ball near halfway and burst through the initial tackle before setting off a marauding 40 metre run to the try line. Moyle knocked over the regulation conversion.

With the visitors then picking up a red card of their own Camborne went further in front when hooker Ben Priddey went over from a catch and drive for his 18th touchdown of the season.

Trailing 19 – 0 Luctonians gave themselves something of a life line as the interval neared opening their account with an unconverted score.

Early in the 2nd period the visitors repeated the dose to edge closer but the Cherry & Whites responded promptly with man of the match lock AJ Hussell somehow powering his way over for the bonus point try. Moyle again added the extras with a twice taken conversion.

Camborne’s powerful replacement props Jack Andrew and Sam Rodman were now giving the visiting pack real problems winning a string of scrum penalties. On 63 minutes Moyle cooly converted one of these from 40 metres to put his team 19 points up once again.

Luctonians hit back almost immediately showing the quality of the their driving maul by bagging a 3rd unconverted try.

In the closing stages the visitors threw everything into attack in attempt to secure a possible pair of losing bonus points but the home side repelled everything that was thrown at them with no real alarms.

Camborne have now reached the ½ way stage of the season with an eight point cushion at the summit of National Two West heading into this weekend’s local derby.
