Camborne 43 Hornets 18
By Martin Symons.
Camborne increased their lead at the summit of National Two West to eight points with a six try win over a determined Hornets in front of a large crowd at the Recreation Ground.
This was a proverbial game of two halves with the Cherry & Whites coming on strong in the 2nd period overturning an interval deficit emphatically courtesy of 33 unanswered points.
A bright opening from the home side was undone by a couple of errors which allowed the visitors to build up an early 12-0 advantage before Kyle Moyle’s penalty opened the account.
A Hornets penalty then extended the lead before ‘Town’ hit back on 25 minutes with full back Moyle’s long pass finding right wing Frankie Nowell who ran around under the posts to dot down. Moyle’s conversion cut the deficit to 10-15.
On the half time whistle a monster long range penalty increased the visitors lead but this would prove to be their last score of the match.
Coming out with the advantage of the slope a pumped up Camborne quickly set about reducing the arrears exerting immense early pressure. Alert scrum half CJ Boyce darted over with Moyle adding the extras for 17-18.
On 50 minutes ‘Town’ hit the front as a deft pass from centre Josh Matavesi sent left wing Alex Ducker flying over under the posts for Moyle to again convert.
Now leading 24-18 the Cherry & Whites looked to turn the screw and when Moyle’s run was halted in the scoreboard corner prop Jon Drew was on hand following up to dive over.
Under almost constant pressure Hornets continued to defend with purpose but eventually Camborne added a further brace of tries in the closing stages.
Replacement scrum half Will Tanswell bagged the first wriggling over from close range before hooker Ben Priddey bagged the other from a trademark catch & drive late on. The reliable Moyle was on target with both conversions to complete a workmanlike victory.
