A large crowd gathered at the Camborne School Of Mines Memorial Ground for the Colts’ clash with local rivals, Redruth.
A tough competitive game where Camborne struggled to get any attacking ball in the first 20-25min as Redruth controlled the tempo and possession, but Town’s defence was superb, as it was throughout the game.
It took nearly the entire forst half to get any points on the board, but the deadlock came minutes before half time when a series of Redruth infringements gave Town a string attacking position allowing captain, Harry Bennetts to go over near the posts. A simple conversion for Theo Mankee to add the conversion.
On the stroke of half time a penalty allowed Redruth to bring their deficit to 4 points, the half time score being 7 – 3.
Second half was just as competitive where the game moved from one end to the other, Town making the best of their visits to the Redruth 22 scoring two unconverted tries in fast succession from Ben Green and Jake Jenkins-Praill, bringing the tally to 17 – 3.
From here Cambonre lost a bit of discipline and struggling with the line out. Town then lost both Noah Olley and Tom Rideout for 7 minutes when judged to have performed a tackle over the horizontal. From the resulting penalty Redruth managed their only.try of the match, which was well converted.
Town weathered the rest of the yellow cards expertly, keeping the ball slow and in the Redruth half. Even managing to add to the score with a well struck Mankee penalty.
With a full 15 back on the pitch and Redruth having kicked a further penalty to bring the score to within touching dostance of a draw, Town hunkered down and defended repeated attacks to keep the Reds out of the Red Zone.
The solid and quick reacting defence kept their try line clear managing to clear their lines and end the match victors at 20 – 13.
A standout defensive performance from flanker, Aldus Povilsitis, earned him a well deserved Player of the Match.
