Camborne RFC Junior

TEAMS

Our Junior teams are U13s to U16s. This is where the game develops and players learn new roles and skills.

Developing the competitive edge

As young players progress through the age groups, the game evolves. Specialisation begins to emerge, with players exploring different positions and developing specific skills. The playing field expands, culminating in full-sized pitches for U14s and beyond.

This closer resemblance to adult rugby introduces more defined roles and specialised training sessions.

From U14s onwards, the competitive landscape intensifies. Players participate in county-wide Cup competitions, with the addition of a league structure at the U16 level. This increased competition provides valuable experience and fosters a strong competitive spirit within the players, always ensuring the game remains safe, enjoyable, and a positive experience for all.

At Camborne, we make the transition to the full laws of the game fun and engaging as players mature, both physically and mentally. This marks a significant shift, challenging players to master the intricacies of the sport, developing a deeper understanding of the game and honing their skills within the framework of the official laws.

Each age group is supported by a dedicated team of experienced coaches who are passionate about developing young players. These coaches provide expert guidance, focusing on individual player development and creating a positive and inclusive environment for all.

These age groups are encouraged to get involved with other aspects of club life. Many players contribute to the club by volunteering with younger age groups, often as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. This valuable experience allows them to pass on their knowledge and skills, providing excellent role models for our younger players. Additionally, many Colts are actively involved on match days, serving as ball carriers for the First XV and contributing to the vibrant matchday atmosphere.

Preparing young people for life

The rugby field is not just a place to hone physical skills; it’s a crucible where character is forged. At Camborne RFC, we instill in our young players the values of sportsmanship, humility, and resilience.

Winning is celebrated, but always with grace and respect for the opposition. Defeat, however bitter, is seen as an opportunity for growth and learning.

Our aim is to equip these young athletes with the mental fortitude to overcome adversity, the humility to accept setbacks, and the grace to acknowledge the achievements of others.

These invaluable life lessons, learned on the rugby field, will serve them well as they navigate the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead in their personal and professional lives.

At Camborne, we believe that true champions are not just defined by their victories, but by their character, their sportsmanship, and their ability to learn and grow from every experience, both on and off the pitch.

Make friends

Through play, we see bonds that are formed for life.

Teammates that celebrate each other’s victories and help each other overcome set backs.

Physical Benefits

In today’s fast-paced world, children face unprecedented pressures.

Academic demands are more intense than ever, while the allure of screens and social media constantly competes for their attention.

This leaves little time for physical activity, crucial for both physical and mental well-being.

Rugby offers an alternative. It provides a structured environment where children can unleash their energy, develop essential life skills like teamwork and discipline.

By engaging in this dynamic sport, young people not only improve their physical fitness but also cultivate resilience, confidence, and a healthy balance in their lives.

The Rugby Values

At Camborne RFC, we strive to instill the core values of rugby in all our players, from the youngest minis to our senior teams. These values – teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship – are woven into every aspect of our club.

 * Teamwork: We emphasise the importance of collective effort, encouraging players to support each other on and off the field.

 * Respect: Respect for teammates, opponents, coaches, referees, and the game itself is paramount. We foster a culture of mutual respect and understanding.

 * Enjoyment: We believe that rugby should be fun and enjoyable for all. We create a positive and inclusive environment where players can develop their skills and express themselves freely.

 * Discipline: Discipline is essential for both on-field performance and personal growth. We teach players the importance of self-control, fair play, and following the rules of the game.

 * Sportsmanship: We encourage players to win with grace and lose with dignity. We emphasise the importance of fair play, respect for opponents, and acknowledging the achievements of others.

By upholding these values, we aim to create a positive and rewarding experience for all members of our club, fostering not only skilled rugby players but also responsible and well-rounded individuals.

Mental Health Benefits

In today’s world, an alarming number of children are struggling with mental health issues, facing unprecedented pressures from academic demands, social media, and the constant pursuit of perfection. Rugby offers a powerful antidote to these challenges.

The physical exertion of the game releases endorphins, natural mood boosters that combat stress and anxiety. The teamwork and camaraderie fostered on the field provide a strong sense of belonging and support, crucial for developing resilience and self-esteem. Learning to navigate the highs and lows of competition, to cope with setbacks, and to celebrate successes together builds mental fortitude and equips young people with the tools to overcome adversity in all areas of life.

By encouraging physical activity, fostering social connections, and cultivating a positive and supportive environment, rugby plays a vital role in promoting the mental and emotional well-being of our children.
