Girls TEAM

Our thriving girls teams are a testament to the strength of Cornish rugby. They prove that rugby is a sport for everyone

These girls can…

Camborne RFC is committed to supporting the growth of girls’ rugby within the club and the wider community. We currently field teams at three age groups: U12 (school years 6 and 7), U14 (years 8 and 9), and U16 (years 10 and 11).

We eagerly anticipate the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup and hope to capitalise on the increased visibility and popularity of the women’s game to further encourage participation at all levels.

To ensure all players have access to regular game time, our current groups are “clustered” with other local clubs, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

Sisterhood

Girls’ rugby fosters a unique sisterhood that extends far beyond the pitch. Through shared challenges, triumphs, and unwavering support, these bonds build resilience, confidence, and lifelong friendships. These young women learn the value of teamwork, communication, and mutual respect, empowering them to tackle life’s challenges with strength and grace.

Bonds that last

The camaraderie forged on the rugby field transcends the game itself. Girls who share the sweat, the triumphs, and the occasional setbacks develop a unique bond. This sisterhood builds resilience, fosters leadership, and cultivates a strong sense of self-worth. These experiences empower young women to face life’s challenges with courage, confidence, and an unwavering belief in themselves and their teammates.

Strength and grace

Girls’ rugby is a demanding sport that cultivates incredible physical strength, agility, and power. From explosive sprints to powerful tackles and the grace of a flowing pass, players develop a remarkable level of athleticism. This not only enhances their performance on the field but also translates to improved fitness, strength, and confidence in their everyday lives.

It's not just physical

Rugby is a game of intelligence and strategy. Players must think quickly on their feet, anticipate opponents’ moves, and communicate effectively within their team. This constant mental engagement sharpens focus, improves problem-solving skills, and boosts confidence. Furthermore, the camaraderie and support within the team environment provide a strong social network, contributing to positive mental health and well-being.

Breaking barriers and shattering myths

Girls’ rugby is breaking down the outdated notion that it’s a “boys’ game.” These young women are blazing a trail, demonstrating incredible athleticism, skill, and sportsmanship. By challenging traditional stereotypes and showcasing their talent on the field, they are inspiring the next generation of girls to embrace the power and joy of rugby. They are proving that this is a sport for all, and that girls can achieve greatness both on and off the pitch.

Achievements

Our U16s achieved remarkable success in the 2023-24 season, claiming both the Cornwall RFU Cup and League titles with only one defeat throughout the campaign. This outstanding achievement serves as a powerful inspiration for younger players and lays a strong foundation for the future.

Notably, several of our U16s are currently representing Cornwall at representative level and are involved in the prestigious PDG (Player Development Group), formerly known as the England Rugby Developing Player Pathway. We are actively working to build on this success by establishing an U18s team (years 12 and 13/school leavers) for the upcoming season, providing a pathway for our most talented players to continue their rugby journey at a higher level.
