Saturday matked the official completion on time of our Renovating the Recreation Ground project.

I would like to welcome Val Dalley, Chair of the Camborne Town Deal and her Board members who are joining us to mark this very special occasion.

Thank you for your support.

Camborne RFC has benefitted from circa £1 million funding received from the UK Government’s Town Deal programme which has enabled major Improvements to facilities for the benefit of the whole community to be delivered.

The Club is also very grateful to Tony Chapman and his company CLX Professionals for financial support as part of his commitment to Camborne RFC’s ongoing development.

The changing & ancillary facilities beneath the CLX Grandstand have been completely refurbished and enhanced to now provide the Club with modern compliant changing rooms for both players and officials in addition to facilities for physios and support staff.

Back in September 2025 England’s oldest surviving international and Cherry & Whites legend John Collins was fittingly on hand to cut the ribbon at the door of the home changing room to mark a major milestone in the overall project.

Supplementary funding made available by the Camborne Town Deal Board has allowed the demolition and replacement of the toilet block with an entirely new building again with modern and compliant facilities.

At Crane Park a sustainable energy system that both improves the Club’s green credentials and cuts expenditure in the form of some 85 solar panels producing more than 45 kw of electricity has been installed on the Clubhouse roof. The electricity produced is captured in storage batteries and used to power the floodlights on the Crane park pitch that is frequently used for training by the young players of our Age Grade rugby teams. This pitch has been levelled and reseeded with new perimeter fencing installed. The floodlights have been upgraded with the latest LED lamps now providing an improved level of lighting.

The car park at Crane Park has been completely resurfaced and lined to accommodate more vehicles and the track around the Recreation Ground enhanced with the area at the rear of the CLX Grandstand now tarmacked.

I would like to pay tribute to the volunteers who gave many hours to the initial planning and scoping of our project under the name ‘Project 2018’ in particular the late Al Green.

Later we received great assistance once the project had been accepted as a viable possibility from consultants Len Smith & Martin Azmanov to whom we will be forever grateful.

I must also record my thanks to Richard Simeons our Hon Secretary for his studious stewardship of the project to fruition once approved and thank also Mark Harvey & Traci Parker of Cornwall Council for their support.

Camborne RFC and the Town now have facilities to be proud of as the Club approaches its 150th year with continued aspirations to grow sporting participation and enhance community wellbeing.

Martin Symons,

Chairman, Camborne RFC
