On 14th December, Camborne Women faced Kingsbridge Women in what was anticipated to be an exciting contest, with both teams entering the fixture undefeated in their league campaigns.
A sizeable crowd assembled at the recreation ground to support the Camborne side, despite challenging, blustery conditions. Kingsbridge got the match underway, kicking off with the wind at their backs. The ball bounced into touch, instantly putting Camborne under pressure. The home side responded with determined defence, pushing Kingsbridge out of their 22. The opening half was closely contested, with neither team giving much away. Camborne eventually broke the deadlock when full back Alisha Webb capitalised on a scrum, the ball moving swiftly through the centres before Alisha ran in a superb try from halfway.
In the second period, Camborne’s forwards played a vital role, carrying the ball with purpose and gaining valuable territory. Their efforts led to a series of pick-and-go moves, culminating in scrum half Zoe Aubert darting over the line for Camborne’s second try.
Camborne’s defensive resilience was unwavering, even as Kingsbridge pressed forward. The home side’s commitment in the tackle and their relentless pressure on the opposition forced a penalty just outside the Kingsbridge 22. Vice captain Caitlyn Milliken acted quickly, taking a rapid tap and launching a powerful run. With number 10, Sarah, in support, a well-timed pop pass sent Sarah Vague sprinting to the corner, sealing a 15-0 victory for Camborne Women.
This impressive win propels Camborne Women to the top of the league table, with a perfect record of five wins from five matches. The team will now enjoy a festive break before their next fixture, an away trip to Plymouth Argaum on 11th January.
