Old Redcliffians 28 – 59 Camborne
Camborne racked up a total of nine tries for a 2nd successive match to record a comprehensive victory over Old Redcliffians at Scotland Lane.
With nearest challengers Luctonians slipping up at Barnstaple the Cherry & Whites now hold a 12 points advantage at the top of the National Two West table.
Playing up the slope in the opening half ‘Town’ decisively came on strong to lead 38-7 at the break running in six tries in the process.
Camborne took an early lead when centre Josh Matavesi crashed over from close range for Rory O’Kane to convert. Though the home side levelled midway through the half a catch and drive score from Ben Priddey well converted by fly half O’Kane soon restored the advantage.
In a devastating purple patch the visitors added no less than four touchdowns in a twelve minute period before half time bagging the try bonus point in the process.
First Kyle Moyle’s pass sent O’Kane racing over before centre Matavesi powered through on a bullocking 30 metre run to the line. A superb team try was next rounded off by full back Moyle who cut inside from wide out to cross. Finally after lock AJ Hussell made good ground from a lineout ploy skipper Sam Matavesi’s pass sent flanker Jordan Nicholls diving in. O’Kane added the extras to three of the scores.
Facing a heavy defeat Old Redcliffians came out pumped up on the resumption and to their credit dominated the 3rd quarter to run in three unanswered converted triesreducing the arrears to 28-38.
Camborne’s response came on the hour with man of the match Josh Matavesi again making ground before Moyle’s cross kick found Alex Ducker who fed young wing Finn Love for his first try in the Cherry & White jersey. O’Kane added the extras with an excellent kick.
‘Town’ camped in the home half throughout the closing stages going over the half century mark on 72 minutes with hooker Priddey bagging his brace and O’Kane again converting.
On the final whistle replacement centre George Edson barged over for the ninth try with the impressive O’Kane again landing the goal to finish with a 19 points personal tally.
